William Lundy Roche collection [microform], 1873-1976.

Papers of a prominent Washington, Kan., family that contain local history as well. Most of the material deals with William Lundy Roche and his parents, grandparents, & great grandparents who settled in Washington County, Kan. The general correspondence concerns the Clarke and Williamson families almost exclusively and is dated from 1873 to 1959. Since Mary Ann (Williamson) Clarke saved the majority of the correspondence, much of it consists of letters addressed to her. Another part of this series is letters received by her daughter, Kit C. Roche. There is genealogical information on family members, family letters and business correspondence as well. A group of letters from Lieutenant Charles W. Clarke sent while he was serving in the military during World War I are also included. The miscellaneous family material contains financial, legal, and personal documents of Charles and Sarah Williamson. Items on World War II in this series relate to Private Jonathan B. Roche, William's brother. Other miscellaneous items include newspaper clippings, a scrapbook about Joseph A. Roche, and several bound notebooks.
